Privacy Policy
Effective October 25, 2026
The short version
- WiFi Meter has no ads, no account, no analytics and no third-party tracking.
- Everything the app measures stays on your phone. We never receive it.
- The app asks for location permission only because Android requires it for Wi-Fi scans. It never reads your GPS position.
- The only time the app talks to the internet is when you run a speed test, which connects to Cloudflare.
Who we are
This policy covers the WiFi Meter app for Android (package com.wifimeterapp) and this website. WiFi Meter is developed by Realmbit, LLC ("Realmbit", "we", "us"). Questions are welcome at apps@realmbit.com.
What the app reads and why
| Information | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your Wi-Fi connection: network name, access point address (BSSID), signal strength, frequency, link speed, router address | To show the meter, connection details and advice | Stays on your phone |
| Nearby Wi-Fi networks found by scans: names, access point addresses, signal, channel, security type | For the networks list, radar, channel graph and tracking | Stays on your phone |
| Router manufacturer | Looked up from a list built into the app, using the first part of the access point address | Stays on your phone; no online lookup |
| Surveys you save: spot names, signal readings, times, network names and addresses | So you can compare rooms and export results | Stored privately on your phone until you delete them or uninstall the app |
| Settings: theme, units, alert preferences | To remember your choices | Stored privately on your phone |
The app excludes this data from Android's cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so it is not copied to Google's servers.
Location permission
Android treats Wi-Fi scan results as location information, because known networks can reveal where you are. For that reason Android only lets an app scan for Wi-Fi, or see the name of the network you're connected to, if you grant location permission and keep location services on.
WiFi Meter uses the permission for that purpose only. It does not request, read or store your GPS coordinates or any other position, and it does not build a history of places you have been.
Speed test
When you start a speed test, the app downloads and uploads test data to Cloudflare's speed test service at speed.cloudflare.com. The upload is random data, not your files. Like any website, Cloudflare receives your public IP address and basic connection details as part of the test. Cloudflare's handling of that information is described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. We do not receive your results.
The speed test also pings your own router. That stays on your local network.
The app connects to the internet only when you start a speed test.
Background alerts
If you turn on alerts, the app keeps watching your Wi-Fi connection while it is closed, shown by a permanent notification, so it can warn you about weak signal, drops and access point changes. It also keeps the signal trace up to date. Alerts are produced on your phone and nothing is sent anywhere. Turning alerts off stops the background monitoring.
On Android 13 and newer the app asks for notification permission so it can show these alerts.
Exporting
When you export a survey as a CSV file, you choose where to save it. Once it leaves the app, what happens to it is up to you and the app or service you save it to.
What we don't do
- We don't collect personal information, and we have no servers that receive data from the app.
- We don't use advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't track you across apps or websites.
- This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads no third-party content.
Google Play
If you install WiFi Meter from Google Play, Google processes information such as your download and purchase history under the Google Privacy Policy. If you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics with app developers in your Android settings, Google may give us aggregated, anonymous statistics such as crash rates. If the app offers paid features, purchases are handled entirely by Google Play. We receive a confirmation that a purchase was made, never your payment details.
Your choices and rights
Because your data stays on your phone, you stay in control of it:
- Delete individual surveys in the app.
- Remove all app data in Android Settings, under Apps, WiFi Meter, Storage, Clear storage, or by uninstalling the app.
- Revoke location or notification permission at any time in Android Settings. Features that need them will stop working until you grant them again.
Data protection laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access and delete personal data a company holds about you. We hold no personal data from the app, but you are welcome to contact us with any request.
Children
WiFi Meter is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, for example because a new feature works differently, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
